The Salopian Poetry Society was formed in 1976 and is based in the County of Shropshire.
Welcome to our website one and all; we hope you like it and that, by joining this Society of around 150 members, you will enjoy their poems in our quarterly magazines and entertain us with some of your own poetic pearls.
The Society exists to encourage lovers of poetry to become poets themselves, by publishing their work alongside poems by established poets, in our quarterly magazine 'Salopeot'. Over the years we have been proud to follow the progress of our members as their poetry has improved and they have won prizes in our own and other poetry competitions.
A 70 to 80 page, glossy cover, illustrated magazine of Members' poetry is
published every quarter. The current magazine can be odered for £5 inc p&p and recent back numbers are available at £3 inc p&p from the Editor at 5 Squires Close, Madeley, Telford, Shropshire TF7 5RU. Cheques payable to 'Salopian Poetry Society'.
In March 2015, Sir Michael Leighton, of Loton Park, Alberbury, Shropshire, a published poet in a line of family poets, graciously agreed to serve as our President.
An 'open' poetry competition has been run every year since 1976
and our 43rd such competition is now open for entries.
The adjudicator's name will be announced later.
Poems may be submitted to the competition without an entry form provided the rules are adhered to and the information requested on the entry form is supplied.
Poems may be submitted on-line and payment made direct to our Bank - see competition entry form.
ADDITIONAL PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED FOR POEMS CHOSEN BY THE SOCIETY'S EDITOR
